- In honor of Germany's Oktoberfest, McKenzie Brew House is hosting its first McKenzie-fest at its restaurant locations in Malvern, Pa. and Chadds Ford, Pa from today through October 4. During McKenzie-fest, guests will enjoy special festival beers, traditional music, a menu of authentic German fare, and of course, bar servers dressed in dirndls and leiderhosen. McKenzie's Head Brewer Ryan Michaels is introducing two seasonal brews for the special occasion: Oktoberfest and Pumpkinfest.On Friday and Saturday evenings, the seasonal brews will be served up by bar servers dressed in dirndls and leiderhosen and will be available throughout October. - Stoudt's NIght of the Living Firkincorn @ Grey Lodge Pub October 01, 2009 - Grey Lodge Pub, 6235 Frankford Ave., Phila.
- Stoudt's has released their first ever pumpkin beer. Unlike other pumpkin beers, Stoudt's features peppercorns. Tonight, the Grey Lodge will have four different firkins of Stoudt's Pumpkin sitting on the bar, each with a different level of peppercorning, from mild to inferno. There will small pours available so you can try them all and then have a full pint or two of your favorite if you'd like. Four firkins is a lot of cask ale, so they will be offering growler fills. If you can't make it on Thursday, they will be out on the bar again on Friday evening, if they last that long. Pay as you go.

- Patrick McGovern, the leading authority on ancient fermented beverages, and Dogfish Head's Sam Calagione team up to talk about how ancient ales and extreme beverages are discovered and brought back to life.
Following a tantalizing trail of archaeological and chemical clues around the world and through the millennia, as Dr. McGovern, Scientific Director of the Museum's Biomolecular Archaeology Laboratory, tells the compelling story of humanity's ingenious, intoxicating quest for the perfect drink. Whether mind-altering, medicinal, a religious symbol, a social lubricant, or artistic inspiration, fermented beverages have been a profound force in history, and may be fundamental to the human condition itself. DFH founder Calagione follows up by describing the "brave new world" of re-creating these liquid time capsules. - Head Brewer Larry Horwitz will host The Gathering of the Gourds, a seasonal celebration of pumpkin beers and autumn-inspired snacks. Beginning at 2 p.m., customers will be able to enjoy as many as eight different pumpkin ales and lagers from Iron Hill’s family of brewers and guest breweries Elysian Brewing Company, Cambridge Brewing Company and Stewart’s Brewing Company. Horwitz will be serving his Ichabod Imperial Pumpkin Ale, Bruce Camp-ale, Boom Sticke Pumpkin Alt, Punk-toberfest and Pumpkin Ale. Guests will be treated to Executive Chef Dan Bethard’s complimentary pumpkin munchies such as pumpkin chili, pumpkin and mushroom gratin and pumpkin and sweet potato croquettes with savory maple aioli. The festival will continue throughout the afternoon, including the 5 p.m. Pumpkin-Firkin Tapping – literally, an enormous pumpkin filled with Ichabod.
